Visit the MSN Dial-Up page. Indicate whether you want to start a new account, or if you'd like to use your existing Hotmail, MSN or Windows Live account as your user name. If you already use Hotmail, Windows Live or Windows Live Messenger or any other part of the MSN/Windows Live suite of services, click the second option, click "Next" and log in with your account user name and password. If you are a new customer, indicate that and click "Next."

Select your billing plan. The company may bill you once a month for the service, or you may choose to pay for the service for a year in advance at a significant cost savings. You still get a free 30-day trial, regardless of your choice of billing plan.

Create your new email address and user name. They will be the same. Your new user name will be the prefix of your new Windows Live email address. For example, if your user name is "marysmith123," your new email address will be "marysmith123@live.com." Follow the on-screen instructions to provide your name, user name, new password and security question. Click "Next."

Enter your billing information. Though the company offers a free trial, you must enter a valid credit card prior to beginning it. MSN will not charge you until your 30-day trial has expired. Enter all the correct information. At the end of the form, indicate whether you would like MSN to mail your Internet client software to your billing address. Click "Next."

Review your order, including your contact information, user name and billing plan. Confirm your purchase by following the on-screen instructions to complete the transaction.

Download and install the Internet client software. After you complete your order, you can immediately download the MSN dial-up client software on the subsequent screen. Click on the "Download" button to begin the download, and install it once the download is complete.

Run the dial-up installation software on your PC. Enter your account user name and password information that you created it during the account setup process. Follow the on-screen instructions to specify the dial-up access numbers, your location and other connection details.

Connect to the Internet once your software installation is complete. The software will prompt you to connect to the Internet right away. If you prefer to connect later, you can close out of the installation by clicking "Close." You will be able to connect at a later time by double-clicking the icon on your desktop that the installation process created.
