Technical interviews are a nerve-wracking requirement for those in the information technology field. This interview is designed to test your knowledge in certain areas before being hired to ensure that you are capable of handling the tasks the position requires. 1
Review the job description and list all the requirements of the position. Refresh your knowledge or research any of the requirements that you are not current in.
-
2
Practice responding to questions. Take the list of requirements and practice answering questions that the interviewer will most likely ask.
-
-
3
Dress appropriately for the interview. While it may not be appropriate to wear a full suit for most technical positions, it is best to dress more conservatively than to be under dressed. Find out how employees typically dress in the company and then dress a notch above.
-
4
Arrive on time. If possible, go to the location of the interview in advance so that you know where it is and will not get lost on the day of the interview. Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to avoid the possibility of being late.
-
5
Refrain from answering a question you do not know. If you do not know the answer, simply let the interviewer know and inform her on how you would get the answer. Technical interviewers are not looking for you to know all the answers, but rather that you know the path to find answers and have strong problem-solving skills.
-
6
Confidently respond to questions. While avoiding being overconfident, be sure to answer questions with a self-assured voice and provide relevant supporting evidence whenever it is relevant. Don't be afraid to ask a question if you need clarification.
