DIY Motorcycle Cup Holders

DIY Motorcycle Cup Holders thumbnail
Cup holders can be easily installed on motorcycles.

While motorcycles don't have the same luxuries as cars, they can have a number of different accessories installed to give bikers everything they may want while on the road. One of these accessories is a cup holder for a drink, so that bikers won't have to stop their bike every time they get parched on the road. While you can purchase these cup holders to be installed on your motorcycle's handlebars or body of the bike, you can also easily make them yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Find or weld a metal ring that is sized to fit the average cardboard or pint glass. Use a thin piece of aluminum or steel that you can wrap without the help of a machine and weld together on one end. To find a metal ring, go to a metal shop or scrapyard to see what metal rings they may have on hand.

    • 2

Drill the same size hole in the body or the handlebars and the metal ring you have just made for the cup holder. This hole should be the size of a larger metal screw that you will use to secure the metal ring to the bike itself.

    • 3

Wrap pliable metal mesh around the metal cup holder ring, molding it into the shape of the bottom of a drink cup or glass. The edges of this mesh can be bent to securely fit over the edge of the metal ring or wrapped around it and welded to itself with the MIG welder.

    • 4

Put the screw, with a nut, through the hole in the ring and install it on the motorcycle. Screw in both the screw and nut through the ring and into the motorcycle. Once both the screw and the nut are tightened, you can use the MIG welder to fuse the nut and screw together. However, it may be difficult to get off the bike if you do this.

Tips & Warnings

  • The lighter the metal ring, the easier it will be to install the cup holder.

  • Consider drilling two holes in both the ring and the motorcycle to give the ring even more stability.

  • To avoid costly damage, be sure you know exactly what you are drilling into when you drill a hole in the body of your motorcycle.
