Instructions

    • 1

Combine drywall joint compound and water in a bucket. Thin the joint compound until it has the consistency of thick paint. Mix the compound to a thicker consistency for heavier wall texture.

    • 2

Scoop up the compound mixture on the broad edge of a heavy trowel. Cover the bottom half of the wall with the compound. Push the trowel upward approximately 4 feet in even strokes that cover the width of the trowel. Work quickly so the mixture does not dry out. Wipe off the trowel with a damp cloth as the mixture begins to dry on the trowel.

    • 3

Mix more compound mixture as necessary.

    • 4

Cover the top half of the walls by applying the drywall compound mixture with the same technique. When done correctly, the compound will form small "skips" on the wall where there was not enough texture to cover the entire area. These skips form the basis of the skip trowel texture. You should go back and work the trowel over finished areas a second time.

    • 5

Allow the texture to dry completely. Prime and paint as desired.
