Roasting a turkey is easy and provides you with delicious meat.

Turkey is popular during holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. In fact, it's nearly a staple food during the colder seasons. Turkey can be prepared in a variety of ways, from deep-fried and smoked to slow-roasted, with a wide range of seasonings and stuffing flavors. Making your own herb-roasted turkey isn't difficult, and the ingredients used can be customized according to your own taste. Herb-roasted turkey makes use of fresh garden herbs or dried seasonings from your spice rack.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the thawed, raw turkey into the roasting pan. Pat it dry with a paper towel to prepare it for rubbing.

    • 2

Add the sea salt, sage, rosemary and black pepper to the small bowl. Smash the mixture together with the backside of a teaspoon. Mix it thoroughly to create a colored herb-salt.

    • 3

Rub the entire outer surface of the turkey with the rubbing salt. The ingredients of this recipe will rub a whole 12-lb. bird.

    • 4

Peel the onions, and shave the outer skin from the carrots. Stuff the vegetables, whole, into the orifice of the turkey. Stuff the fresh bay leaves into the orifice with the vegetables.

    • 5

Cover the bird with aluminum foil and roast in the oven at 325 degrees F. Depending on the size of your turkey, the amount of time needed to roast it fully will vary. For example, a 12-lb. turkey requires 3 to 4 hours to reach the needed internal temperature of between 175 and 180 degrees F.
