How to Clean a Resin Pipe or Porcelain Glass

While designed to withstand constant use, the steady stream of smoke blowing through resin pipes creates a discoloration inside the pot that's visible on the outside. This is especially true if you have a porcelain glass pipe. The porcelain inside the glass remains protected, but the outside of the glass takes on a hazy appearance, because of the dark color of the smoke. Cleaning the resin pipe removes the smoke and restores the pipe to its original appearance. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a pipe cleaner into the hole in the stem of the pipe when the pipe is cool to the touch. Gently twist the pipe cleaner around to brush any debris or tobacco from the pipe. Pull the pipe cleaner out and shake it slightly to knock out any loose debris.

    • 2

Twist the pipe cleaner into a small circle at one end and rub it against the bowl of the pipe. The bowl is the round area of the pipe, where you place your tobacco. Rub the pipe cleaner along the bowl, to remove trapped tobacco and nicotine.

    • 3

Turn the pipe upside down and hold your thumb over the bowl. Shake the resin pipe carefully, catching any debris that comes loose in the palm of your hand. Repeat this process after each time you smoke the pipe, to remove any old tobacco.

    • 4

Wet the end of your pipe cleaner and push it through the mouth hole on the pipe. Twist the pipe cleaner around in the hole and then gently pull it out. While it's still wet, rub down the area around the outside of the hole, to remove any left behind residue.

    • 5

Soak a facial tissue in rubbing alcohol and rub it all over the inside and outside of the pipe, as well as the bowl. The rubbing alcohol removes left over tobacco residue and naturally evaporates, without leaving behind any odd smells.

Tips & Warnings

  • Run a pipe cleaner through the pipe before you use it each time, to remove any residue you may have missed.

  • Use rubbing alcohol less frequently, as it removes the residue known as cake. Cake is the stuck-on residue that provides insulation for your pipe and makes it last longer.
