How to Locate an Old Whole Life Insurance Policy
Your whole life insurance policy provides guaranteed protection to your family in the event of your death. However, your family must be able to find it before they can claim the death benefit. If you have an old whole life policy, but don't remember where you put the policy contract, you can still receive a copy of your policy from the insurer. Make sure you understand how to properly request a copy of your insurance policy.

Look around your home for your policy. You may have put your policy in a safe in your home or in a desk drawer with other important financial documents. If you cannot locate your life insurance policy, you may request a copy from your insurer.

Locate your life insurance policy number. The policy number is printed on every policy statement. You should get a policy statement every year. Alternatively, your most recent premium bill will have the policy number printed on it.

Contact the insurance company and ask for a copy of your policy. The insurance company may send you a form to request a copy of your policy. However, whether or not this is required depends on your insurer's internal policy for making replacement insurance policy requests.

Fill out the policy replacement request form, if necessary, and return it to the insurance company. You should receive a copy of your policy within a few weeks. If you haven't received a copy of your policy within four weeks, contact the insurer to make sure the paperwork was processed properly.
