How do I Troubleshoot a Fujisu Scansnap S500?
The Fujitsu Scansnap S500 document scanner is designed to quickly scan documents with high-quality results. After using your device a few times, you may begin to experience problems with its normal functionality, such as power loss and jammed documents. Navigating some simple instructions and performing your own basic maintenance will have your scanner operating correctly again shortly.

Paper Jams
-
1
Lift the ADF cover (Automatic Document Feeder) before removing any paper from the machine by pulling the cover's "Open" lever (on the front panel of the device to the right, just above the "Operation" button). Be careful when maneuvering around the glass of the ADF, as the surface gets hot during use.
-
2
Remove the jammed document from the paper chute (the back area of the device where paper is inserted).
-
-
3
Push the ADF cover closed with an audible snap, and then try your scan again.
Power Loss
-
4
Turn the Fujitsu around so that the back is facing you. Examine the point at which the AC power cord is plugged into the AC jack of the S500. Unplug the cord from the S500 and examine the metal receptors for dirt or grime. If the receptors are dirty, clean them with a dry cleaning cloth. Plug the AC cord back into the back of the device and examine the length of the cord from the device to the AC wall outlet for damage, such as cuts, tears or dents. If the cord is damaged, replace it. Unplug the AC adapter cord from the wall outlet and plug in a different device to test the outlet for proper functionality. Plug the AC adapter back into the wall and try to turn the power on again.

5
Open the scanner's paper chute, as the scanner will not power on unless the chute is open. The paper chute is folded over the top of the unit in the off position. Insert your fingers under the flap of the paper chute and lift up, swinging the chute backward, until it comes to rest in the back position.
-
6
Push the "Power" button (which is also the "Operation" button and is on the front panel of the device). If the paper chute is opened, the scanner can be powered off by pushing the "Power" button without closing the paper chute.
