How to Ask a Police Officer Out

How to Ask a Police Officer Out thumbnail
It's never a good idea to ask a police officer out on the job.

Police officers may be sworn to protect and serve, but that does not mean they cannot have social lives. Police officers have fun, date and get married just like everybody else, all while protecting the public and maintaining order. If you are interested in asking a police officer out on a date, it can be tricky knowing what is appropriate or not. There is nothing attractive about flirting with a cop during an emergency. Asking a police officer out on a date requires that you feel out the situation and wait for the appropriate moment.

Instructions

    • 1

Be confident and do not hesitate. Police officers are approached by people they do not know on a regular basis for all sorts of reasons, so acting wishy-washy around the officer will not make him feel at ease. Being secure in yourself despite your flaws, both physically and emotionally, makes you more attractive in general and more appealing as a potential date. Once you have decided to ask a particular police officer out, walk up and do it with a big smile.

Look for signs. It always helps to make eye contact and flirt in advance before asking a police officer out on a date. Testing the waters can help you avoid rejection and embarrassment, plus it gives the officer a chance to come to you if she is interested. Use subtle flirting techniques such as laughing at jokes, maintaining eye contact and lightly brushing the arm or hand. Do not, however, flirt while a police officer is giving you a ticket or questioning you.

Ask for a date when he is not with other officers. Never ask a police officer out when he is on duty or answering a call; always wait for a break. Asking an officer out when he is with his partner or other cops is also not a good idea and will probably be embarrassing or awkward. Finding the right moment can be tricky, but you at least want to wait until he is relatively unoccupied and alone. If you are unable to catch your police officer alone, try asking if you can speak to him alone for a moment or slip him a note with your phone number, adding that you would love to have coffee.

Tips & Warnings

  • Many police officers do not wear wedding rings on the job to avoid threats to their families; make sure the police officer you are interested in is single and available before asking him or her out on a date.
