How to Paint Exterior Signs

Things You'll Need
- 3/4 inch plywood, 36 inches by 60 inches
- Exterior paints
- Paint roller
- Paint tray
- Paint brushes
- Polyurethane
- Sponge roller

Roll on a base coat of paint. If you plan to work with bright colored letters, consider a black or white base coat. Cover the entire front side of the plywood to create a finished work surface. Allow paint to dry before continuing.

Paint on your business name, address and phone number using a paint brush. Ideally, you will want to use a one- to two-inch thick brush to display the business information in a legible manner. Allow paint to dry.

Paint on a business logo or design. The design should capture on-lookers' attention to attract them to your business . Allow paint to dry for three to four hours before continuing.

Cover the entire exterior design with polyurethane. Use a foam roller to apply an even clear coat over the sign. The polyurethane will further protect the sign from water damage.
