How to Reset Keyless Entry in a 1987 Nissan Maxima thumbnail
Aftermarket keyless entry remotes are reset similar to the keyless entry remotes in standard systems.

In 1987 the Nissan Maxima did not come with a keyless entry system for locking mechanisms. However, you or a previous owner might have added an aftermarket keyless entry system to the vehicle. If you need to reset the keys to your Maxima's keyless entry system you'll have to follow the re-programming instructions for your particular system. However, there are a few common steps you can try.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit down in your driver's seat and put on your seatbelt. Lock all the doors in your Maxima.

    • 2

Put your key in the ignition and pull it out. Repeat this process five additional times in less than 10 seconds. Your hazard lights will flash to indicate you've done this correctly.

    • 3

Turn the key on and hold down the lock button on your keyless entry remote. Lights will flash again. Turn your car off and exit the vehicle.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you run into an issue and cannot reset your keys, locate the instructions for your keyless entry system and try again.
