How to Install Sheet Rock Corners

The corner of a wall is the most susceptible to damage. Furniture, groceries and even kids hit wall corners on a daily basis. This continual contact can cause the corner of the drywall to break or crack. Installing corner beading is a great way to avoid damaged sheet rock corners. Corner beading is made of plastic or metal and is installed directly over the corner of a wall. Corner beading can come in a variety of shapes that can give your corners a bullnose or typical corner shape. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the corner from the top of the wall to the floor. Mark the length on the corner bead with a pencil.

    • 2

Clamp the corner bead to a sturdy object, such as a workbench or table top. Cut the corner bead on the marked pencil line with a hacksaw.

    • 3

Set the sheet rock corner in place on the wall. Recruit a friend to hold the corner beading in place while you secure it to the wall.

    • 4

Screw 1½-inch screws through the nailing flange of the corner bead and into the wall with a screwdriver. Use a power screwdriver to sink the screws in place.

    • 5

Run your hand along the nailing flange of the corner bead to check for screw heads that protrude above the surface. If you find any screw heads that stick up past the surface, sink them further into the wall.

    • 6

Spread drywall mud over the corner beading. Smooth the mud as much as possible. Let it dry for 24 hours.

    • 7

Sand the drywall mud until the transition from the drywall to the corner beading is smooth. Paint it the same color as the rest of the wall.
