How to Reset the Oil Change Light on a Honda

Resetting the oil-change light on a Honda takes less than a minute.

Honda cars come equipped with an oil change light that illuminates according to your maintenance schedule. The light typically illuminates every 3,000 to 5,000 miles as a reminder to change the oil. Honda dealership service centers will reset the light for your after changing your car's oil. However, if you change the oil yourself or have an independent shop complete the job, you might need to reset the light. Do not reset the light until after the oil has been changed.

Instructions

1. Locate trip odometer reset button, normally used to toggle between total miles traveled and trip calculators. The button -- usually a small, black peg with notches on the side -- is just below or to the side of the odometer display.

2. Press and hold the button with your left hand.

3. Turn on the ignition with your right hand, continuing to press down on the odometer reset button.

4. Hold down the reset button for 10 seconds. The oil indicator light will turn off. Turn off the ignition.

Tips & Warnings

• Take your car to a repair shop if the oil-change light re-illuminates after resetting it. The light could indicate a larger problem that must be addressed.
