How to Compare Midsize Trucks
Midsize pickup trucks provide the ability to haul small amounts of cargo combined with room for passengers. Midsize trucks are a good choice for those who don't need the full hauling capacity of a full-size truck but are looking for more than a compact truck. Also known as crossover trucks or sport utility trucks, these trucks combine the characteristics of a sport utility vehicle and a pickup truck for the driver who wants a little of both.

1
Research midsize trucks available. In 2010, midsize trucks for sale included the Chevrolet Avalanche, Honda Ridgeline, Cadillac Escalade EXT and the Ford Explorer Sport Trac, although 2010 will have been the last model year for the Sport Trac.
-
2
Assess each vehicle's price, performance, specifications and reviews. Find prices and vehicle specifications, including towing capacity, transmission choices, seating, cargo capacity and fuel efficiency on each manufacturer's website or by reading reviews on automotive websites or in magazines.
-
-
3
Evaluate each midsize truck's safety rating by checking its star rating on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's SaferCar.gov website. Compare newspaper and magazine reviews, as well as reviews from automotive websites.
-
4
Determine which models meet your needs. Eliminate any trucks that are too expensive, do not have enough seating, hauling or towing capacity for your family's needs, or are not fuel efficient enough.
-
5
Research insurance costs for each truck. Call your insurance agent to get quotes, or get quotes online from other insurers.
-
6
Test drive each vehicle. Visit a dealership to drive each truck and determine how they handle and maneuver on the road.
