Do-it-Yourself Auto Emergency Kits
Imagine being in an empty parking lot; your car battery is dead and so is your cell phone. Or perhaps you are stranded along the interstate with a flat tire and no one available to help. Be prepared for the unexpected by having an auto emergency kit. You can assemble one yourself. Put the items in a duffel bag and keep it in the trunk. You can purchase first aid items, water, granola bars and a container at a pharmacy. All other auto emergency kit items, including the duffel bag, can be purchased at an automotive supply store.

1
Purchase the auto-related items from an auto supply store. Use the hazard triangles or roadside flares at night to warn other drivers of your presence along the roadside. You should also use the hazard triangles during the day in areas that are dark, such as underground parking garages. Use the flashlight for managing emergencies at night or for seeing in areas that are not well-lit, such as the glove compartment, underneath your vehicle or under the hood of the car where you may need to replace fluids or charge your battery.
Use a tire sealant and inflator for a quick fix to a flat tire. By using this kind of product, the tire can be temporarily fixed and driven on for a short distance. However, the tire will need to be professionally repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Before getting back on the road, use the tire gauge to check the pressure of all the tires, as it changes according to a variety of factors, including the weather. Refer to your car manual for proper inflation specifications.

Purchase your first aid kit medical supplies from a drug store. Use these items to manage minor medical emergencies, such as abrasions, bruises and headaches. Use hand sanitizer or vinyl gloves prior to attending to someone else. A blanket, water and granola bars will be a comfort until you arrive at your destination or until help arrives.
