How to Remove a Chevrolet Impala Steering-Column Cover

by Carl Pruit

You may need to occasionally access the interior of the steering column of your Chevrolet Impala to check for a disconnected wire or short in the wiring. The Impala has an easy-access cover on the bottom side of the column that's held on with a few Torx screws. You can remove the cover yourself in a few minutes' time to avoid making a trip to a mechanic.

Step 1

Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Chevrolet Impala from the battery post with an open-end wrench before removing the steering-wheel-column cover.

Step 2

Locate the steering-wheel-column cover underneath the center of the steering column.

Step 3

Remove the Torx screws that hold the cover in place with a Torx screwdriver.

Step 4

Take the cover off of the Chevrolet Impala steering column.
