How to Keep Your Lawn Green All Year
Keeping a lawn green year round requires routine maintenance and certain mowing procedures. Well- manicured lush lawns do not happen overnight as the blades of grass need proper nourishment from fertilizing and watering to remain green. Cutting the grass too low deprives the ground of moisture as the sun's rays can penetrate deeper into the soil when it lacks the proper ground cover. Keep your lawn looking green all year with the correct tools and procedures. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Fertilize grass in the spring, summer and fall. Fill a grass spreader with the fertilizer. Place the setting on the spreader to low.
-
2
Start in one corner of the lawn and walk length-wise over the yard, slowly cranking the wheel on the spreader to deposit the fertilizer. At the end of the lawn, turn around and make another path 1 foot over, spreading the fertilizer. Continue in this manner, fertilizing the entire lawn.

Water the lawn during the early morning hours. Use a sprinkler system or a garden hose. Saturate the lawn completely. Stick a long screwdriver into the soil, checking for moistness at least 8 inches deep. In hot weather water sandy soils every two days and clay-type soils from four to six days.

4
Set the mower deck at 3 inches and avoid scalping the lawn. Longer blades of grass hold more moisture in the ground, keeping the lawn green. Mow the lawn when grass reaches 3 1/2 to 4 inches.
-
5
Sharpen mower blades or purchase new ones to keep the lawn from looking ragged.
