How to Disable a Chapman Car Alarm

by Tonya Cunningham

Chapman car alarms are among the most common alarms found in newer cars of many different models. When something goes wrong with a Chapman alarm in any type of vehicle, your initial response may be to take it to the dealer for repair. However, when this is not a practical solution or when the disturbance the alarm is causing is not one that can wait, it is possible to disable the alarm yourself.

Step 1

Find your Chapman car alarm. The alarm unit is located in different places, depending on the make and model of your vehicle, but it is most commonly found beneath the dashboard on the driver's side of the vehicle. The alarm is a square box, usually about four inches in diameter, and has the name "Chapman" written on its side.

Step 2

Check to see if there are wires attached to the Chapman box by a small clamp-like ending. If there are wires, simply disconnect the clamps in order to disable the alarm. If there are no wires, if you have to disable the alarm wherever the siren is located.

Step 3

Open the hood and look behind the driver's side of the engine. You should see a metal object that also has "Chapman" on it, with wires extending from the end. This is the alarm's siren. Disconnect the wires on the siren so that the alarm unit cannot activate the siren. The Chapman alarm has now been disabled.
