How to Configure and Run VoIP and Data Through a Cisco Aironet 1300

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephony is an increasingly used form of home telephone service. Rather than a traditional hard-line telephone cable, VoIP technology uses a high-speed Internet connection to make and receive telephone calls. VoIP telephone service is generally much cheaper than traditional telephone service because of the relatively small amount of bandwidth needed to make a call, but VoIP carries the disadvantage that any loss of electricity or Internet service means you will not be able to make or receive calls. VoIP phone service also requires a router like the Cisco Aironet 1300 be configured for VoIP service in order to convert your high-speed Internet to a usable phone signal.

The exact configuration settings to be used, as well as the exact means of entering them into the 1300's web configuration utility, varies depending on the specific VoIP service. If you have any questions along the configuration process, it is best to contact your VoIP provider and have them walk you through the configuration. Once configured, the Aironet 1300 is ready to transmit VoIP traffic and be used for all your home telephony needs.
