How to Train Employees on Cultural Diversity
Businesses should proactively address diversity issues, including racial, gender and cultural diversity. Every business should strive to be an inclusive organization where everyone is respected, valued and used to the best of their abilities. When starting a cultural diversity program, there are two paths you can take. One way is to hire an outside firm to come in and conduct the training. The other is to provide educational materials via video training. The method you choose will most likely revolve around what your business can afford.

Hiring Diversity Consultants
-
1
Find a diversity consulting firm. If you know of any businesses that have hired diversity consultants, ask them for a reference. If you don't know anyone that can give you advice, three national firms you can try are Montage Diversity Consultants, Executive Diversity Services and the Felicity Group (see Resources).
-
2
Contact the consulting firm and make sure they can service the needs of your organization. Find out whether they can customize their training to your business, what their experience is with large and small organizations, how they conduct the training and whether they offer ongoing support. It's best to contact more than one firm so you can compare prices and services.
-
-
3
Choose a consulting firm and get a written quote from them. Make sure the quote details everything you have discussed that will be included. You don't want any surprises later.
-
4
Allow the consulting firm to come into your organization and implement their training methods.
Providing Video Training
-
5
Find cultural diversity training videos to compare. Three online websites that sell videos are Employee University, Business Training Media and Media Partners (see Resources).
-
6
Read the key points for each of the videos. On many videos, you can even click and watch a preview. You'll want to find videos that address the issues important to your organization, and will help engage your employees on the topic. You'll also want to make sure that the current diversity issues within your company are thoroughly addressed in the videos you choose.
-
7
Purchase the videos you feel will benefit your organization.
-
8
Schedule diversity meetings with your employees and have them watch the videos.
