How to Trim the Moulding for Beadboard
Beadboard panels decorate the walls of many homes. While these panels are used in many places, they typically cover the bottom half of a wall, acting as wainscoting. Often, beadboard paneling is paired with chair rail moulding. This molding acts as a cap and is installed directly above the beadboard. This molding finishes the edge between the beadboard and the wall. Trimming the chair rail moulding is the first step in the moulding installation. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the wall where the beadboard paneling is installed. Measure above the beadboard paneling to get a proper measurement for the chair rail moulding. Mark the measurement on the moulding with a pencil.
-
2
Set the chair rail molding flat on a miter saw. Trim the molding to size with the miter saw. Make straight cuts on the miter saw by setting it to zero degrees. Set the miter saw to a 45 degree angle to trim the moulding to fit along the corners.

Set the chair rail moulding in place above the beadboard. Have a helper hold the moulding while you secure it in place with a nail gun and finish nails. Space the nails approximately 6 to 12 inches apart. Nail through the center of the moulding and into the wall studs where available. Use a stud finder to locate the studs as needed.

4
Fill the nail holes with wood putty. Apply a bead of caulk along the gap between the beadboard and the chair rail. Spread the caulk smooth with your finger. Let the caulk and wood putty dry before painting the beadboard and chair rail moulding.
