How to Change Wiper Blades in a 1992 Mercury

The wiper blades used on 1992 Mercury vehicles like the Grand Marquis use a single pin on the wiper arm and a press-fit clasp on the wiper blade. This makes the removal of the wiper blade straightforward. You need to change the wiper blades if the rubber blade peels off the metal wiper-blade housing or if the wiper blades leave constant streaks on the windshield when they are on. Changing your wiper blades can make your driving safer.

Instructions

    • 1

Grab the wiper blade arm with your hand and pull the arm off the windshield cowl. The windshield cowl is the part of the car body directly in front of the windshield and from which the wiper arms protrude. Position the wiper arm vertically. The spring inside the arm will hold the arm vertical for you.

Hold the wiper-blade arm with one hand and hold the wiper-blade housing with the other. Pull the blade housing off the metal pin on the arm. The housing has two metal tabs inside of it that press around the metal pin on the blade arm. When you pull on the blade housing, the metal strips separate and allow the blade housing off the pin.

    • 3

Hold the wiper blade with one hand and press the new wiper-blade housing onto the pin on the wiper blade arm. You will hear the housing snap into place.

    • 4

Push the wiper blade down and rest it against the windshield cowl.

    • 5

Repeat the process with the other wiper blade.
