1
Lower the car onto the ground if it has been raised with a jack. When the lug nuts are loosened with the car in the air, the wheel may shift and turn as the wrench is applied. The ground will keep the wheel steady and make it easier to take off the nuts.
-
2
Spray lubricant onto the lug nut, and allow it to soak for at least five minutes.

-
3
Place the lug nut wrench on the lug nut with one of the arms perpendicular (horizontally) to the left of the tire. Use the lug nut wrench that came with the car or one that is made to take off lug nuts.
-
4
Stand on the arm of the wrench to apply your body weight and force the wrench to turn counterclockwise.
-
5
If you are still experiencing trouble, call for professional help, such as AAA, if possible, if the lug nut does not break. There is a possibility of stripping the nut if the wrench slips while trying to remove the nut.
