How to Eliminate the Smell of Smoke From a Burning Fireplace Inside a House
A fireplace makes your room warm in cold weather and adds light and ambiance, as well. Keeping your fireplace clean and maintained helps it function so smoke goes up the chimney, rather than into your room. But even when it's functioning correctly, you can end up with a slight fireplace smoke smell in your home. Things You'll Need
- Bowls
- White vinegar
- Bucket
- Clean cloths
- Baking soda
- Vacuum
- Cotton balls
- Vanilla essential oil

Pour undiluted white vinegar into small bowls. Set one or two bowls in each room affected by fireplace smoke smell and allow them to sit overnight. The vinegar neutralizes the smoke odor in the room.

Wash surfaces that might have absorbed smoke smell. Pour 1 cup white vinegar into a bucket full of warm water. Wash down hard-surfaced furniture in the smoky smelling room. Wash flooring, walls and wood furniture to remove absorbed fireplace odor.

Sprinkle baking soda on upholstered furniture and carpeting. Let the baking soda absorb fireplace smoke odor from the fibers overnight. Vacuum up the baking soda in the morning.

Replace unpleasant smoke smell with delicious vanilla. Place two drops of vanilla essential oil onto a cotton ball. Put a cotton ball under furniture or in the corner of the room to add a pleasant fragrance to your room.

Tips & Warnings
Fresh air is one of the best deodorizers and odor removers. Open windows and allow the fresh air to circulate for a while.
Wet a cloth with white vinegar and wave it around the room for quick smoke smell removal.
Coffee grounds in a bowl help neutralize room odors.
