How to Find an Inmate in Oregon

How to Find an Inmate in Oregon thumbnail
Oregon allows members of the public to search for inmates.

The Oregon Department of Corrections maintains a database of incarcerated inmates. This database is accessible to the public and can be searched by anyone. Though the official Department of Corrections database provides only limited information on current inmates, the department also provides access to VINELink, a database operated by the National Victim Notification Network, which includes recently released inmates and probationers. Like the departmental database, VINELink is open to the public.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the Oregon Offender Search database, accessible through the Oregon Department of Corrections (see Resources). You will be asked to read and agree to a disclaimer stating that the Oregon Department of Corrections assumes no liability for inaccuracies in the record. Click the button labeled "I Agree" to continue. If you do not agree, do not access the database.

Enter the name of the inmate or his or her State Identification Number (SID) into the appropriate boxes. You can leave some boxes blank if you do not know all of the inmate's information. If you are unsure of the correct spelling of the name, you can use an asterisk to allow for a partial name search. For example, entering "Adam*" would retrieve all names beginning with "Adam", including "Adams", "Adamson" and others. You can also add an asterisk midname: "Mi*on" would retrieve "Michelson," "Milton" and "Middleton." Once you have entered the information, click "Search" to continue.

Select the inmate from the search results list. You can sort the list by first name, last name, date of birth or SID by clicking on the corresponding header in the results table. Select the inmate by clicking on his or her SID to see more information. Information provided in the extended record includes the inmate's name, aliases, date of birth, age, gender, race, height, weight, hair and eye color, SID, case number and worker, photograph, and sentencing information. It also includes the inmate's location, status and earliest release date.

Search the VINELink database if you cannot locate the inmate in the Oregon Offender Search database (see References). Enter the person's SID or their full or partial last and first name. To narrow your search further, include their date of birth or approximate age. Once you have entered the information, click "Search" to retrieve records.

Locate the inmate's name on the results list. This list is sorted alphabetically by last name and does not allow resorting. It includes inmates, probationers and recent releases. Click on the name for a more detailed record. The record includes name, SID, date of birth, age, race, gender, custody status, scheduled release date, location (if known) and reporting agency. It also allows you to register to be notified of changes in the person's status (for example, if you wish to know when the inmate is released) using either phone or email.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the information you enter in the Oregon Offender Search returns too many results, you will be asked to refine your search before any results are displayed.
