How to Drive a Car Simulator

Driving simulators have become more realistic over the years with the inclusion of responsive pedals and steering wheels. A driving simulator can help a beginning driver learn how to control an automobile and obey the rules of the road, or it can provide entertainment. Driving a simulator can be comparable to driving a real automobile, and you must practice to do it effectively. Techniques to increase your reaction time, dexterity and coordination will help in using a driving simulator for training or entertainment purposes.

Instructions

    • 1

Consult the operation manual for specific directions on using the driving simulator. Ask an instructor or attendant if you need clarification on any particular point.

    • 2

Sit carefully in the simulator, using a seat belt or harness if required. Check to make sure the gas and brake pedals are not depressed before pressing "Start" on the simulator screen.

    • 3

Rest your right foot gently on the gas pedal and wait until the simulator instructs you to begin. Place your hands on the sides of the wheel and shift the gear into drive, if applicable.

    • 4

Apply light, gradually increasing pressure to the gas pedal. Drive the simulator as you would an automobile, allowing time for the software to recognize your commands.

Tips & Warnings

  • Every simulator is different. Take it easy your first time through and learn how the software responds to various commands.

  • A driving simulator is not a substitute for real driving experience in an automobile.
