How to Use Fighting Whips
When you think of fighting with a whip, the images that may come to mind are fighting scenes from the Indiana Jones films, or that of a lion tamer or circus show. Whips were traditionally used to herd animals, as the whip's crack startled the animals and enabled a person to corral them. Whip fighting has been a part of many cultures, particularly in Central Asia and Indonesia where the Filipino fighting whip was first designed. The martial art form Latigo Y Daga is a Filipino martial art that uses flexible weapons. Learning how to properly use a whip in fighting takes great practice and patience.

1
Grab the whip handle firmly. Extend your thumb along the length of the handle. This is used as an aiming point. Where the thumb points, the whip will follow as you whip your wrist.

2
Raise your whip arm and ensure that the whip's end is behind you. Begin circling the whip over your head and ensure that the whip is fully extended as you make the circles. Don't cycle the whip too fast at first. Start with slow, smooth circles.

Tips & Warnings
Practice a forward swing of the whip along with the above instruction. Bring your arm up, ensure the whip end is behind you, and then fling your arm forward and snap the wrist. This can help you get into the timing of snapping your wrist when the whip flies forward.
Use caution when attempting to use a whip. The whip will return back toward you. Many injuries occur upon the whip's return. Be sure that you're aware of the whip's end at all times.
