Insert IP addresses using your browser's address bar.

An Internet protocol (IP) address associates a series of numerals with a computer located on a network such as web or a local intranet. Although all websites have one or more IP addresses assigned to them, most do not require users to directly enter the address. Instead, they use easily remembered domain names that automatically direct users to the corresponding address. In the rare instance where a domain name isn't available, your browser supports the direct entry of IP addresses. Entering the address becomes a quick task once you know the proper syntax.

Instructions

    • 1

      Open a web browser window.

    • 2

Click in the address bar near the top of the window. Highlight any existing characters and then press the "Delete" key.

    • 3

Type "http://" (without including quotation marks), follow this with the site's IP address and then enter a forward slash (e.g., "http://255.255.255.0/").

    • 4

Press the "Enter" key to confirm your choice and navigate to the website associated with the IP address you just entered.
