How to Hook Up a Bike to a Stationary Trainer
A stationary trainer is a piece of exercise equipment that allows a bicycle to be pedaled in place. The bicycle is attached to the stationary trainer, which elevates the bicycle's rear wheel. The stationary trainer uses a metal drum to provide resistance to the rotating bicycle wheel. Stationary trainers help cyclists maintain fitness during winter months or whenever outdoor riding may not be convenient.

1
Unfold the two stationary trainer legs and set the trainer on an even surface.
-
2
Open the rear axle skewer quick-release. The skewer passes through the rear wheel axle. Remove the nut on the other end of the skewer by hand, and pull the skewer from the wheel.
-
-
3
Install the axle skewer included with the stationary trainer. The included axle skewer allows the wheel to be compatible with the particular stationary trainer.
-
4
Raise the rear of the bicycle and fit the left tip of the axle into the left-side stationary trainer arm. Each arm of the stationary trainer is fitted with a notch to accommodate the axle tips.
-
5
Rotate the right side stationary trainer arm until it is flush against the right side of the axle. The right side stationary arm will have either a lever or dial to move the arm back and forth.
-
6
Raise the front bicycle wheel and place a climbing block beneath the wheel so that the bicycle is even. A climbing block is an accessory that is used to level a bicycle during use on a stationary trainer.
-
7
Turn the dial on the resistance drum until the drum is touching the rear bicycle tire. Tightening the drum further increases pedaling resistance.
