How to Find Arithmetic Mean

Finding an arithmetic mean doesn't have to mean confusion and frustration. The arithmetic mean is another term for the average of numbers. You can average any amount of numbers from two upwards, given the value of the numbers and the amount of members in the number set. A set of numbers is a specified list of numbers. Learning to find the arithmetic mean of a set of numbers allows you to find the average value in given data.

Instructions

1. Calculate the number of members of the series. For example, the set { 1, 4, 7, 12, 13 } has five members or numbers.

2. Add the numbers together. For the example, { 1, 4, 7, 12, 13 } added together equals 37.

3. Divide the amount of the numbers added together by the amount of members of the sequence. For the example, 37 divided by 5 equals 7.4. The arithmetic mean is 7.4.
