How to Troubleshoot a Shine Phone Not Accepting Calls
The LG Shine was released from AT&T in 2007 and has become one of the most popular cell phones they offer. Recently, AT&T released a Shine II that advances all of the popular features of the original Shine. Like with any cell phone, the Shine may stop making and accepting calls at times. Simple troubleshooting must be completed to identify and correct the problem. The troubleshooting steps refer to both versions of AT&T's Shine. Troubleshooting your Shine is simple and requires only a vague knowledge of the phone itself.

1
Verify active service. If your device is prepaid, make sure you have both current service and available minutes, then place an outgoing test call. If your Shine is a contract phone, verify you have active service by placing an outbound call.
-
2
Make note of the Shine's IMEI numbers and your SIM card number. The SIM card is the small card located underneath the battery that holds your phone number's information. The IMEI numbers are printed on the phone and are located under the battery. Every cell phone has a different IMEI to identify the specific device. These two numbers work together to allow the Shine to make and accept calls from your phone number.

3
Power-shock the device. To do this, remove the battery while the Shine is powered on. Leave the battery out for a full minute, then reinsert it and power on the Shine again. Place both incoming and outgoing test calls to see if the problem is fixed.
-
4
Verify the Shine's call settings. Open the main menu and select "Settings." Select "Call," then "Reject List." Verify that the "All Calls" option is not on.
-
5
Contact the wireless provider's customer care department. The representative will verify your service has not been disconnected. They will also verify the correct SIM and IMEI numbers are linked with your cell phone number. The representative will also check to see if your line is provisioned correctly in their systems. Every provider has provisions that must be set per individual line to allow the line to make and accept calls.
-
6
Contact Technical Support. If the troubleshooting fails to correct the problem and Customer Care verifies the phone line is set up properly, the provider's technical support department has internal system methods of correcting service problems. Many times, the technical support representative can identify and correct the problem without you having to do anything.

7
Replace the device. If all options fail to restore service, AT&T offers two ways to replace the defective Shine. Within the first year of purchase, the warranty department will replace the device free of charge as long as no physical or liquid damage is present. For damages or after the one-year warranty period, AT&T offers wireless phone insurance that will replace your Shine for a $50 deductible.

Tips & Warnings
Changing the settings in a Shine requires a complete power cycle before the settings take effect. Once you have saved the changes, always cut your Shine off and back on again.
Physical and liquid damage will effect the Shine's ability to make and accept calls.
