Western Union agent locations are generally in supermarkets and convenience stores.

Western Union is one of the largest financial companies in the U.S. and offers person-to-person money transfers to consumers. Money can be transferred from one of 46,000 agent locations nationwide. You need to complete a transfer form at one of these locations to send money. Depending on your preference, money can be sent and received within minutes or the next day. Recipients can receive cash or have funds deposited on a prepaid debit card.

Instructions

      Locate the nearest Western Union agent location using the "Agent Locator" online tool (see Resources). You can also contact the company at 877-276-5554 and ask a representative for the nearest location.

      Visit the location and request a Western Union send form. Depending on the location, the forms may be available at a kiosk or the customer service desk.

      Enter the information for the person you are sending the money to in the "Receiver" section of the form. The information must be entered accurately or the receiver may experience difficulty when trying to retrieve the money transfer.

      Enter your information in the "Sender" section and check the boxes next to any optional services you need such as sending a message with the transfer.

      Check the box in the next section to indicate whether the receiver will need to present picture identification. If they are unable to, check the "No" box and enter a test question and answer in the appropriate fields. The receiver will need to provide the answer when collecting the money.

      Sign and date the form. Submit the form and the amount to be transferred to the Western Union representative. Inform the representative whether you want the money available for collection within minutes or next day. There will be a fee for sending the transfer. You will receive a copy of the form after the representative processes it.

Tips & Warnings

  • A test question only cab be used if the receiver is collecting up to $1,000. Valid picture identification is required for amounts over $1,000.

  • Money can also be sent online using a debit or credit card. You must register for an online account before sending money.

  • Call 800-225-5227 to send money by phone. Be prepared to provide the representative with your debit or credit card information.
