How to Repair a 4 Oz. Popcorn Popper
A 4 oz. popcorn popper is a relatively small machine suitable for use in homes or small break rooms. These machines are old fashioned in style--a glass box with a suspended metal warming tub. The 4 oz. measurement of the machine refers to the amount of popcorn that goes into the measuring cup for popping in one cycle. By comparison, standard-sized microwave popcorn bags produce approximately 3 1/2 oz. of popcorn. Should the machine need to be serviced, you may be able to do basic repairs yourself. Unplug the machine and make sure it is completely cool. Over time, oil and dust can build up in the components, clogging fans and mechanical parts. This is true no matter what brand of machine you're using. Cleaning the machine may loosen up any buildup and solve the problem. The heating element can be wiped down with a soft cloth and soap and water. The kettle may have a buildup of carbon. It is safe to use a heavy-duty carbon cleaner on the kettle. Use a can of compressed air to dislodge any buildup that you can not directly access. Do not allow any mechanical part to soak in water or it may short out.

Diagnose where the machine is failing, if possible. Perhaps the machine turns on, but popcorn won't cook. Problems could include buildup in the motor, fan issues, or damage to the heating element. Knowing where the machine is malfunctioning is helpful when you take the machine in for servicing.

Take the machine to be serviced if it still needs to be repaired. The best place to start when looking for help with your machine is the place of purchase. Many vendors of popcorn machines offer a warranty, sell replacement parts, and can connect you with a local repair service. If going through the vendor is not possible, you may need to search for a local repair service. If a part needs to be replaced, such as a burned-out motor, you may wish to contact the manufacturer for replacement parts. If you replace a part on your machine, order parts made just for your specific model. There are many brands of popcorn poppers that use different proprietary parts.
