How to Measure Teleflex Rack Steering Cables

The hydraulic Teleflex steering system is an upgrade you can install on an old boat with troublesome wire steering. The system eliminates the older system's brittle pulleys, awkward cabling and stiff steering. Due to the system's hydraulic nature and the fact that it shouldn't be cut, you must purchase the exact measurement of cables you need. Fortunately, you can easily measure the cables in just a few minutes.

• Tape measure

Instructions

1. Measure from the center of the steering wheel attachment to the side of the boat with a tape measure.

2. Measure from the point parallel to the steering wheel to the boat's stern rear), then measure along the back to the boat to the attachment point on the outboard motor.

3. Add up all the measurements you took in steps 1 and 2 to determine the cable size you need. If you come up with an unavailable size, always round up rather than down; you can route the cable to account for the small difference in size.
