How to Make a Drag Mat
When taking care of a playing field for sports, it's important that the surface is clean, level and safe for all players. This helps en sure no one trips or falls unnecessarily. In order to accomplish this, you can make a drag mat. This version is best used as a hand-pulled device carried behind you to even out rough terrain. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Old section of Chain link fence 4-feet wide x 6-feet long
- Bolt cutters
- 15 feet of 3/8-inch diameter rope
- Knife

Cut a piece of old chain link fence down to 4-feet wide by 6-feet long. If needed, you can piece together smaller sections to get to the correct size.

Cut 6 feet from a rope. Attach one end to one corner of one of the 4-foot sides of chain link. Tie the loose end of the rope to the opposite corner on the same side.

Thread 9 feet of rope around the center of the 6 feet of rope. Tie the ends together to make a loop. This will act as a pulling handle. Place the drag mat behind you, hold on to the rope loop and pull the mat across the area you wish to smooth out.
