How to Create a Boy's Bedroom

Creating a boy's bedroom that reflects his personal style, favorite interests and hobbies can be an easy and affordable project. By using common, ordinary items in unique ways, a boy's room may be transformed from plain and boring to a custom-decorated bedroom with personality. For an added bonus, after determining the desired look of the room, consider using the project as a bonding experience and decorate the room together.

Instructions

1. Choose furniture. Consider a bed with storage drawers below to save valuable space. Add a bookcase with storage baskets to house books, art supplies, video games or building blocks. Purchase a small table and chair set or child's desk to use as a workspace.

2. Decide the theme of the room. Discuss favorite colors, hobbies or the child's personal style with him. This may serve as the theme such as basketball, the color red or fishing, from which all other decorating decisions may be made.

3. Purchase bed linens. Search for bedding in the desired room theme or find bedding in the child's favorite color. Add a pillow in a complementary or coordinating color to the bed for added interest.

7. Add creative decorative elements to the room based on its theme. Hang a basketball hoop from the wall, use skateboards as wall shelves, use a fishing rod in place of a curtain rod or create a custom valance with sports pennants to reiterate each specific theme.
