How to Set Up an Intex Frame Pool

In addition to its popular inflatable pools, Intex makes a line of round metal frame above ground pools. Assembling the pool involves connecting horizontal tubes around the upper edge of the pool and then raising them on vertical legs. Although it is recommended that Intex metal frame pools be assembled by a team of at least two people, total assembly usually takes less than an hour to complete, and requires no tools. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Flat, perfectly level area for assembly

Instructions

    • 1

Spread the ground cloth out over a flat, perfectly level area that is free of sticks, rocks and other sharp objects. There should be at least four feet of open area on all sides of the ground cloth.

    • 2

Spread the liner out over the ground cloth, with the drainage valve pointed away from the house. If possible, the openings for the filter hoses should be pointed toward the nearest electrical supply.

    • 3

Push one of the pool beams (the wider pipes) through two of the openings in the sleeve at the top of the pool liner. You can start at any point of the pool.

    • 4

Insert the far end of the beam into one of the large openings of a T joint, so that the smaller opening is pointed down. Line up the hole in the T joint with the hole in the end of the beam, and insert a connector pin through a pin seal and then into the holes.

    • 5

Insert a beam into the next set of sleeve openings, and attach the near end to the other side of the T joint, lining up the holes and inserting a connector pin through them.

    • 6

Move to the free end of the beam you just inserted and attach a T connector to it. Continue in this way until you have run beams through all of the sleeve openings and attached them to T connectors.

    • 7

Slide one of the vertical legs (the narrower pipes) through the belt at the center of the pool liner and through the white retaining rope at the bottom of the pool liner. The end of the leg with the spring-loaded pin should be pointed upward.

    • 8

Align the sides of the spring-loaded pin with the holes in the bottom of the closest T joint. Press the sides of the pins in with your fingers and insert the leg into the T joint, until the pin ends pop out into the holes in the T joint. Connect all the legs to T joints in this fashion.

    • 9

Grab the top frame at two or three places (using one or two friends to help) and shake it to make sure all of the legs are fully engaged in the T joints.

    • 10

Spread the bottoms of the legs away from the center of the pool, so that the floor of the pool liner is fully extended and the legs are perpendicular to the ground. The pool is now ready for filling.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you're having difficulty making the last beam and T-joint connection, try lifting the beam and the joint ends and bringing them together in a V formation. Then lower the point at which the ends come together; the entire frame will tighten as you bring the beam down into a position where you can slide it into the pipe.

  • To check the level of your pool assembly, fill it with a small amount of water. If the water runs to one side of the pool, the area is not sufficiently level. Disassemble the pool and move it to a new location.

  • Failure to properly attach beams and legs to T joints can cause the pool to collapse when it is filled.

  • The legs on this pool are sufficient to hold the upper frame when the pool is filled; they can not hold back too much water pressure. Setting the pool up in an area that is not level can cause excessive water pressure in one area and cause the pool to collapse, possibly damaging the pool.

  • Setting up any above-ground pool on a lawn may kill the grass beneath it.
