Step 1
Stretch together. Stretching with a partner can help you attain greater flexibility. Partner stretches, such as those working the hamstring, hip or inner thighs, create a level of attainment that isn't possible when stretching alone.
-
Step 2
Spar together. Practicing strikes, blocks, dodges and combinations with a partner leads to improved control and timing.
-
Step 3
Practice self-defense techniques. One way to know if your joint-lock technique really works is to try it on a partner. Be sure, however, to agree on a signal that clearly communicates when a technique is causing pain to your partner.
-
Step 4
Work on a specific technique and then ask for feedback. Ask your partner to watch you do a kick, then ask what looked good and where you need to improve. Change roles and provide feedback to your partner.
-
Step 5
Encourage each other to improve against personal goals. It's not uncommon to go through periods of self-doubt or discouragement. Agree to support one another through these periods.
-
Step 6
Prepare together before promotion tests and tournament competitions. Quiz one another on terms, definitions and concepts. Practice techniques. Offer advice and suggestions for improvement.
