Refrigerators by General Electric are available in a variety of formats as well as with many options, such as humidity controlled drawers and temperature sensors. Many GE refrigerators also offer ice makers and water dispensers that include a built-in water filter. Replacing this filter on a regular basis will help ensure the quality of the water. Locate the water filter cartridge, which may be in one of two locations on a GE refrigerator. One location is in the upper right corner of the back of the refrigerator compartment. Instructions

  1. Water Supply Line Filter

    • 1

      Locate the filter on the water supply line.

      Place a towel underneath the filter and disconnect the filter at the inlet side. Disconnect at the outlet side. This will cause the water to shut off.

      Place a bucket under the water supply line. Connect the water supply line to the new filter at the inlet side and allow water to flow through the filter in order to flush out debris. Let the water flow for approximately five minutes.

      Disconnect the water filter at the inlet side to stop the flow of water. Connect the filter to the water supply line at the outlet side and then reconnect the inlet side.

    Refrigerator Compartment

      Slowly turn the old filter counterclockwise and lift out.

      Remove the adapter on the new filter by turning it counterclockwise ¼ turn.

      Fill the new filter cartridge with tap water. Locate the arrow on the cartridge and the cartridge holder inside the refrigerator. Place the new cartridge inside the holder, following the direction of the arrows. Do not force the cartridge into place.

      Slowly turn the cartridge clockwise until it stops, approximately ½ turn.

      Run water from the water dispenser for five minutes to flush out any debris or particles. Press "Filter Replaced" on LCD refrigerator models and "Set Features" on non-LCD models. Wait until "Replace Water Filter" is illuminated and then press and hold the "On/Off" pad for three seconds. "Water Filter Is Reset" will appear.
