How to Pay for Mental Health Treatment in Kentucky

How to Pay for Mental Health Treatment in Kentucky thumbnail
Mental health care costs can be expensive without insurance coverage.

Mental health treatment is not always covered with health insurance plans. If your regular health insurance plan does not cover mental health treatment, some Kentucky mental health providers offer a sliding scale treatment plan based on income or payment assistance. This helps reduce the burden of being a self-pay patient but still have the ability to get the proper treatment. These payment options are also available to those who would also need drug or alcohol recovery treatment.

Instructions

    • 1

Call the Kentucky mental health care provider of your choice to inquire about which types of payment are accepted. Most providers in Kentucky will accept private health insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, military insurance and state-financed insurance. There are also options for private pay patients such as a provider offered sliding scale for treatment and payment assistance.

Contact your health insurance provider to see if mental health care is covered. Your insurance will tell you how many treatments per year are covered, the co-pay and can provide you with a list of authorized mental health care providers, if mental health is covered. The list of authorized mental health care providers will all be in Kentucky. Give the agent your zip code to find providers near you.

Apply for payment assistance if you do not have a health insurance plan. Contact a treatment center near you by visiting rehabilitation.com (see "Resources"). Payment assistance is based on income, and many of the Kentucky treatment centers listed operate on a sliding scale basis.
