How to Install HID Headlamps
Many people prefer for their vehicle to be equipped with HID (high-intensity discharge) headlamps, which have a cool look and help some see better on the road. While some new vehicles come with HID headlamps, another option is to buy a HID installation kit. With this you can easily have brand-new HID headlamps for a fraction of the cost. Learn how to install HID headlamps and be prepared to do it yourself.

Engage the parking brake and ensure the vehicle's ignition is turned off for safety reasons.

Open the hood and locate the rear of one of the vehicle's headlamp assemblies. Remove any screws securing the assembly in place. Set the screws aside for use later during reinstallation.

Access the electrical connector at the rear of the headlamp assembly. Press the locking tab on the electrical connector to detach it from the assembly.

Remove the retaining ring from the rear of the headlamp assembly. Twist the old bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the socket.

Attach the ballast that comes with the HID kit to a secure location under the hood of the vehicle and connect the electrical wiring connector (from Step 3) to the rear of the ballast. Use the mounting brackets to secure the ballast in place. Connect the output wires from the ballast to the headlight assembly, and if necessary, connect a ground wire from the ballast to the car's frame.

Insert the new HID bulb into the socket and turn clockwise until it is secured. Replace any screws that you removed from the headlight assembly.

Repeat the above procedures to install an HID lamp in the other headlight assembly.

Test out the new HID headlamps to ensure they have been installed properly. Close the hood.

Tips & Warnings
Always wear latex gloves when handling headlight bulbs. The oil from your skin can transfer to the bulb and cause the glass to shatter.
