How to Verify a GED in Indiana

How to Verify a GED in Indiana thumbnail
A GED is recognized as equivalent to a high school education.

A general education development test---also known as a general equivalency diploma or graduate equivalency degree---is used as a certification that a person has the equivalent of a high school education. Employers look to verify a job applicant's GED when they receive his application, and this can be achieved by getting the applicant's signed consent, submitting a form and payment to a local GED administrator and interpreting the information received from the administrator.

Instructions

    • 1

Contact the applicant and ask him when and where he was tested for his GED. Visit the American Council on Education's website to track down contact details for the testing center that the candidate used for his GED test (see Resources). According to the ACE website, there are eight GED testing centers in the state of Indiana.

    • 2

Fill out an application for release of Indiana GED test score/re-issued diploma (see Resources) and obtain the applicant's signature. GED test scores will not be released to an employer without the endorsement of the applicant.

    • 3

Send the completed form by mail to the Office of Adult Education in Indianapolis (address supplied on the form) or scan and email the form to dlovelad@doe.in.gov. Fill out your business address to receive the GED test results in the mail, or supply a fax number to receive a hard copy via fax.
