How to Replace a Horn on a 2001 Suburban Chevy

The 2001 Chevrolet Suburban has two horns that sound together when the driver depresses the horn pad on the steering wheel. If either horn on your Suburban is not functioning, first test whether they are receiving electricity. To do this, have an assistant hold a voltmeter to the horn terminals while you depress the horn pad; if voltage is present, the horn is faulty and needs to be replaced.

• Jack stands
• Socket set

Instructions

Horn Removal

1. Raise the front end of the Suburban with a jack, then secure it on jack stands.

2. Locate each of the horns attached below and behind the front bumper at each lower corner of the radiator support. Pull the electrical connector out from the socket of each horn.

3. Loosen and remove the horn mounting bolt attached to the radiator support with a socket wrench, and remove each horn from its mounting.

Horn Replacement

1. Install the new horns to the radiator support and replace the mounting bolts.

2. Push the connectors into the terminal on each horn to connect the electrical supply.

3. Lower the vehicle to the ground. Depress the horn pad on the steering wheel to test the operation of the horns.
