DIY Rod Holder
Build your own rod holder at home with items and tools you already may have in your garage. A rod holder keeps your equipment organized and secure, allowing you to quickly select which rod to use for fishing. Building your own holder is not only economical but practical because you can customize the holder and parts to the size you need to hold your gear.
Things You'll Need
- Ruler or tape measure
- Pencil
- 1 pre-cut stud, 2-inch x 4-inch
- Handsaw
- Hand drill
- PVC pipe measuring 5 feet long by 1.5 inches wide
- Hacksaw
- 3-inch drywall screws
- Screwdriver
Instructions
-
-
1
Measure and mark 15-inch segments on the stud. Also measure for two end pieces 6 inches in length to support the main piece.
-
2
Use a handsaw to cut the studs. Cut the stud with the handsaw into a 15-inch main piece and the two 6-inch pieces, using the pencil marks as your guides.
-
-
3
Position the 15-inch wood piece horizontally and upright on its thin side then put the two 6-inch wooden pieces flat underneath it on both edges. The two smaller pieces serve as "stands" to support the main piece.
-
4
Attach the 6-inch wood pieces to the edges of the main piece by drilling two or three drywall screws into its bottom.
-
5
Cut the PVC pipe with the hacksaw into lengths that can hold the various sizes of your rods. The pipes can range from 10 inches to 15 inches in length or longer, depending on rod lengths. Put three pipes or more on both sides as long as they fit in the length of the main stud.
-
6
Drill two holes about 3 inches from the bottom of each pipe, with a 1-inch to 1.5-inch space between each, one on top of the other. Drill corresponding holes into the main stud piece for attaching the pipes. Space the holes out evenly on both sides. For three pipes on each side, drill six holes in sets of two on the sides of the main piece.
-
7
Screw the PVC pipes to the main piece, using six dry wall screws on each side. Tighten the screws until the pipes are secured to the stud. Put fishing rods into the pipes.
