How to Find Authentic Uggs

Checking the tag on boots is often a good way to determine authenticity

Whenever an expensive brand name item starts to get really popular, it's only a matter of time before knock-offs start appearing and flooding the black market. With popular UGG boots, it's no surprise that there's a huge black market for fakes and Uggs claiming to be "authentic" when they're really not. So how do you avoid getting burned with a pair of fake Uggs? Stick to licensed retailers, always check the tags and certificate of authentication, and be wary when buying online.

Instructions

1. Find an Ugg concept store near you. Concept stores sell only certain brands or products, and you can find them in most major cities. Chicago, Honolulu, Miami, New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Washington DC and Los Angeles all have Ugg concept stores; you can find the exact addresses on the official UGG website under "Retail Stores: Concept Stores."

2. Go the the UGG website if you can't find a concept store in your area. Click "Retail Stores" and then "Authorized Retailers." Enter your zip code or city and state to get a list of authorized retailers in your area.

3. Get a list of authorized online retailers by clicking the "Authorized Online Retailers" tab on the Ugg website if there are no concept stores or authorized retailers for Uggs in your area. Always be wary when purchasing Uggs online, and buy only from retailers listed on the official UGG website.

4. Check your Uggs for authenticity if you purchased them from a retailer you haven't been able to check against the authorized retailer list. Familiarize yourself with the reflective security stickers UGG uses on their shoe boxes and look for them when shopping. You can also check the sewn-in UGG tag for authenticity.

5. Contact UGG if you believe you have purchased a counterfeit product, and report the retailer to them.
