How to Dissolve Testors Model Glue and Cements

How to Dissolve Testors Model Glue and Cements thumbnail
Testors model glue is commonly used on all types of models.

Due to the tedious nature of building scale models, that moment of gluing yourself to your project with Testors model glues or cements is nearly inevitable. However, it need not be a hospital-worthy disaster; a little patience and warm water dissolves the glue in a snap. Testors glue is considered to be non-toxic. Since it bonds to skin instantly, any attempt to pry away the offending object or pull apart your fingers can result in painfully skinned digits.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove any clothing that comes into contact with the glue to prevent spreading it around. This is especially true in the event of a spill.

    • 2

Wipe away any glue that may not have hardened in the event of globs or puddles. Use a disposable cloth or paper towel.

    • 3

Dissolve glue from your skin by immediately soaking and flushing with warm water.

    • 4

Wipe away the dried adhesive gently. If it does not come away easily and painlessly, continue treatment with the water until it does.

    • 5

Use acetone, such as nail polish remover, to blot away excess glue on surfaces, including on your model.

Tips & Warnings

  • Acetone can damage the surface of the model, so use sparingly on a cotton swab or clean rag.

  • Acetone may also remove paint or stain from furniture, so use caution.
