Replace a Car Title in North Carolina

To replace your lost car title in North Carolina, you must complete an Application for a Duplicate Title, and send the form to your local North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles office. If you have a loan on your vehicle, your lienholder must complete the bottom of the form. Otherwise, the DMV will reject it and you will have to resubmit it. Expect the process to take at least a few weeks. The DMV has a 15-day waiting period after receiving the form before they process it and send you the duplicate title registration form.
