Fiamm Air Horn Instructions thumbnail
Make a statement with an air horn that whistles Dixie.

Fiamm is the world's largest manufacturer of air horns, according to the company, based in Montecchio Maggiore, Italy. The company makes air horns for industrial, automotive, marine and ATVs, as well as an 8-oz. canned "air horn." The Fiamm air horn that plays "Dixie Land," a 118-decible after-market horn, is a good example of Fiamm installation and operation. The horn, model 66053, retails for around $50 on Internet sites.

Instructions

  1. Preparation

    • 1

Fill out the warranty card and mail it in. Fiamm air horns come with a limited, one-year manufacturer's warranty.

    • 2

Paint the horns black or another color more complementary to the car, if the horns are visible. The Dixie Land horns, for instance, are manufactured in purple or red.

    • 3

Double-check the compatibility of the air horn with your vehicle. The Dixie air horn, for example, requires a 12-volt system.

    Installation

    • 4

Examine the Fiamm kit, and wiring diagrams. Fiamm air horns come with a heavy-duty compressor and a kit that contains the hardware needed for installation.

    • 5

Wire the original horn wire to the coil. Wire the air horn compressor to the other side of the coil. The air horn compressor is also wired to the new horn relay, which connects with a 30-amp fuse, and the 12-volt supply. The 12 volts are supplied by the main buss in the fuse box.

    • 6

Sound the horn by pressing the pad on the steering wheel. The first air horns, such as those installed on tractor-trailer trucks, ran on the vehicle's air brake system, and were sounded by pulling a cable. Fiamm automotive air horns operate like standard car horns.

Tips & Warnings

  • Air horns are particularly audible. They are often installed on ambulances, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs where a loud horn is a safety necessity.

  • Fiamm air horns are sold from hundreds of dealers in Europe, America or Asia, from a catalog, or online. The company sales office is located in Cadillac, Michigan.

  • Place the Dixie Land horns out of direct wind, according to users, to avoid distortion to the pitch of the horn or cause a "squeak."

  • Refer to a Fiamm kit for full installation instructions.
