Cold Air Intake Installation Instructions
A cold-air intake is an aftermarket add-on; it replaces the stock, air-filter housing, filter element, and intake hose of a vehicle. Aftermarket cold-air intakes are made for a large variety of vehicles. Most manufacturers claim that aftermarket cold-air intakes are less restrictive than the stock air-filter system of a vehicle. These intakes might add a slight increase in horsepower and fuel mileage.

1
Turn the engine off and open the hood. Loosen the negative battery-terminal cable with a wrench. Lift the cable straight up from the negative battery terminal. Push it aside.
-
2
Release the retaining clips on the air filter housing-cover. Loosen the hose clamp on the air-intake pipe with a Phillips screwdriver; lift the cover straight up. Remove the stock air-filter element from the housing and discard.

3
Pull the air temperature-sensor from the air-filter housing and push it aside. Remove the retaining bolts on the bottom of the air-filter housing with a socket and ratchet. Lift the housing straight up and remove it from the engine compartment.
-
4
Install the heat shield and the mounting bracket that came with the cold-air intake kit. Fasten them to the air-filter-housing mounting holes. Skip this step if your cold-air intake kit does not contain a heat shield or mounting bracket.
-
5
Intake the intake pipe that came with your cold-air intake kit to the intake manifold. It is located where the stock hose was disconnected earlier. Tighten the hose clamp with a Phillips screwdriver. Fasten the other end of the hose to the mounting bracket with the hardware supplied with the kit.
-
6
Pull the air-restriction gauge -- if your vehicle is so equipped -- from the stock, air-filter housing. Push it into the hole at the center of the air-filter element that came with the cold-air intake kit. Attach the mounting bracket to the other end of the filter element with the hardware supplied with the kit.
-
7
Push the air-filter element onto the hose installed on the intake hose earlier. Line up the hole in the mounting bracket with the mounting hole, and then tighten the screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Tighten the hose clamp on the filter. Push the air-temperature sensor into the fitting on the cold-air intake until it is fully seated. Replace the battery cable and tighten the clamp with a wrench. Close the hood.
