Plasma screens are high-definition, power-conservative monitors.

Flyback is a type of electronic hardware that is used to generate higher voltage levels in high-voltage plasma screens and other plasma-based technologies. Unlike a normal-power transformer that uses voltage of anywhere between 40 and 60 hertz, the flyback uses voltage of anywhere between 10 and 50 kilohertz, making it, in some occasions, 10 times as powerful as a normal-power transformer. There are several things you can do to test a Flyback to make sure that it is functioning correctly.

      Run the monitor on the highest resolution possible by changing the resolution in the menu on the monitor. To access the menu, consult your user's manual. This makes the transformer work at its highest rate. Check whether the screen displays any inconsistencies. If the screen flickers or distorts, it could mean that the flyback is shorting the wiring of the monitor. This means the flyback might be defective. It also might mean that the wiring is bad, but more often than not it is a problem with the flyback itself.

      Replace the flyback with a normal-power transformer to see whether the problem is in your television or the flyback. Disconnect everything you're working on from electrical outlets before you work on the units, and check the user's manual for instructions on replacing the flyback. Plug in the units again when you have installed the transformer. If the television displays the same inconsistencies with the normal-power transformer, then the television itself is defective, not the flyback. Try the flyback on a different television, as well, to be sure the problem is not with the flyback.

      Replace the flyback with an alternative flyback. Again, disconnect anything you're working on from electrical outlets and connect them again to test. Replacing the flyback will show you for sure whether it is the monitor or the flyback that is not functioning correctly. If the alternative flyback works in the television and presents no noticeable distortion in the screen, then the original flyback may be faulty.
